International football produced record transfer activity between June 1 and September 2, with new highs recorded in both the men’s and women’s professional games, FIFA reported on Thursday.
More than 12,500 men’s international transfers were registered during the period, while clubs spent over $9.89 billion in fees. English clubs led spending with more than $3.02 billion, followed by Italian clubs at $1.1 billion.
FIFA said French clubs received the largest combined transfer-fee total at $1.7 billion. English clubs received $1.43 billion, while German clubs collected $1.02 billion.
The women’s market registered 1,406 international transfers, a record and a 19.2 percent increase over the previous high. Transfer spending reached $28.6 million, more than twice the amount recorded in the preceding mid-year window.
English clubs also led women’s transfer spending at $8 million. Clubs in Spain spent $6.6 million, followed by Germany at $4.9 million, the United States at $2.9 million and Italy at $2.1 million.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup also influenced the market. FIFA counted 267 players from 47 nationalities who moved clubs after appearing at the tournament, with their combined transfer fees exceeding $3.3 billion.
The figures cover international transfers processed through FIFA’s transfer system. They do not include every domestic move completed within individual national associations.
