A 40-team volleyball competition has begun in Spera-Yaqoubi district, bringing together local sides for a tournament expected to run for approximately six weeks.
Organisers named the competition the “Unity of Tribes” tournament, presenting it as a community event built around sport and local participation.
The opening fixture paired the Tani select team with Mister Zyar. The match ended level after severe rainfall disrupted play, the national sports authority said.
The official announcement did not include a complete fixture list, tournament format, or prize details. With 40 teams involved and a projected duration of one and a half months, however, the competition represents a sizeable district-level volleyball event.
The tournament gives players from numerous local teams an extended opportunity to gain competitive experience while bringing communities together around one of eastern Afghanistan’s popular sports.
Organisers have not yet announced when the next round of matches will take place or whether the rain-affected opening fixture will be resumed.
