India has named fast bowler Yash Thakur as Harshit Rana’s replacement for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan and the 2026 Asian Games.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India said Rana sustained a rectus femoris strain while bowling during a match simulation on September 7 at its Centre of Excellence.
Rana had been progressing through rehabilitation before the new injury ruled him out of both assignments.
Thakur, a 27-year-old fast bowler from Vidarbha, made his T20I debut during India’s tour of Zimbabwe in July. He took four wickets in two matches.
The BCCI said Thakur has collected 81 wickets in 50 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches at an economy rate of 7.04.
India’s updated squad also includes Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy. The first match against Afghanistan is scheduled for September 13 in New Delhi, followed by games on September 15 and 17.
