Mohammad Nabi has added another significant achievement to his international career, becoming the first Afghanistan player to score 2,500 runs in Twenty20 international cricket.

The experienced all-rounder reached the landmark during Afghanistan’s second T20I against India at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Nabi scored 20 as Afghanistan posted 159 for eight after being asked to bat first. His lower-order contribution came as Afghanistan attempted to recover from the regular loss of wickets during the middle overs.

Although India went on to win the match by seven wickets and secure the three-match series, Nabi’s achievement represented an important individual milestone for Afghan cricket.

Nabi has been a central figure in Afghanistan’s rise through international cricket. He was part of the national team during its progression from associate-level competitions to Test status and appearances at major International Cricket Council tournaments.

The 41-year-old made his T20I debut in 2010 and has remained one of Afghanistan’s longest-serving international players. His career in the format includes seven half-centuries, with a highest score of 89.

Nabi’s value to Afghanistan has extended beyond his batting. His off-spin bowling, experience in pressure situations and participation in franchise competitions around the world have made him one of the country’s most recognised cricketers.

He has also captained Afghanistan during different periods of his career and has played an important role in guiding younger members of the national side.

Afghanistan lost Tuesday’s match after India chased a target of 160 in 14.5 overs. Sanju Samson scored 57 and Abhishek Sharma made 39, while Rashid Khan claimed all three Indian wickets.

India now hold an unassailable 2–0 advantage in the three-match series. The third and final T20I is scheduled for September 17.
