Afghanistan’s Hamid Ashrafi advanced in the men’s 65kg wushu sanda competition at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games after defeating Macao’s Guo Tun Hung 2–0 on Monday.

Ashrafi won both rounds of the bout to secure his place in the next stage of the competition.

The result was recorded in the men’s 65kg programme on September 21, with Ashrafi representing Afghanistan and Guo competing for Macao.

Ashrafi is one of four Afghan athletes competing in wushu at the Games alongside Mohammad Khalid Hotak, Shahzada Safi and Mohammad Jafar Sultani.

Afghanistan also has another medal opportunity developing in the men’s 70kg competition. Hotak advanced after defeating his Yemeni opponent and is scheduled to face an Indonesian athlete in his next bout.

Hotak already owns two Asian Games bronze medals, having reached the podium in 2018 and at the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou.

Ashrafi’s victory keeps another Afghan athlete alive in the wushu competition as Afghanistan continues its campaign in Nagoya.

ASJF NEWS will update Ashrafi’s next opponent and bout time once those details are confirmed through the competition schedule.
