Afghanistan’s bodybuilding team returned from the Asian competitions in Thailand with 10 top-five finishes across bodybuilding, sport physique and athletic physique, including five runner-up places.

The Afghan athletes also recorded one third-place finish, two fourth-place finishes and two fifth-place finishes during the competitions.

Beyond the competition results, Naib Mobarez was named the 2026 Athlete of the Year, adding an individual recognition to Afghanistan’s team performance.

The delegation also secured progress on the technical side of the sport. Masoud Shahim, the technical and professional deputy of the Afghanistan National Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation, obtained an international judging licence.

The General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports held a ceremony to recognise the athletes following their return. General Director Ahmadullah Wasiq congratulated the athletes and said the sports administration would continue supporting athletes and creating opportunities for their development.

The results give Afghanistan a broader competitive record from the event, with athletes reaching the top five in all three bodybuilding-related disciplines represented.
