A high-level delegation from Afghanistan’s General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports visited Zabul Province on Thursday, where officials met with provincial sports administrators, staff and athletes to discuss the future development of sports infrastructure and athletic opportunities in the province.
The delegation was led by Mawlawi Ahmadullah Wasiq, Director General of the General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, and included Technical and Professional Deputy Hafiz Ahmad Jan Zadran, Director of Olympic Affairs Dad Mohammad Payenda Akhtari, and Afghanistan Football Federation President Mohammad Yousuf Kargar.
During the meeting, provincial sports officials presented their priorities and called on the national sports leadership to provide greater support for athletes and sports development in Zabul.
Responding to the requests, Wasiq assured participants that the sports authority would give special attention to the province’s sporting needs. He said that if the Zabul provincial administration allocates suitable land, construction of football and javelin facilities, along with a standard gymnasium, will begin as soon as possible.
Afghanistan Football Federation President Mohammad Yousuf Kargar also announced that the federation is prepared to launch the construction of a FIFA-supported artificial football pitch once land is allocated for the project.
The proposed projects are expected to improve training opportunities for athletes and expand access to modern sports facilities in one of Afghanistan’s southern provinces.
The General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports has continued to conduct provincial visits as part of its efforts to assess local sporting needs and promote the development of sports infrastructure across Afghanistan. Improving access to quality facilities remains a key priority for supporting athletes, encouraging youth participation and strengthening grassroots sports nationwide.
