The Afghanistan Sports Journalists Federation (ASJF) held an extensive consultative meeting with sports journalists on June 13, 2026, to discuss challenges facing media coverage of cricket and broader issues related to the development of the sport in Afghanistan.

According to the federation, representatives of various media outlets and sports journalists shared concerns regarding access to information, transparency, and communication between the Afghanistan Cricket Board and the media.

Among the key issues raised were limited opportunities for journalists to cover national team squad announcements, delays in sharing important cricket-related information with domestic media, insufficient access to players and officials during domestic competitions, concerns over the distribution of media accreditation cards, and the need for a more structured communication mechanism between the cricket board and sports journalists.

Participants also discussed several cricket development issues, including limited playing opportunities for young players selected in national squads, a lack of adequate opportunities for young cricketers in Test cricket, and the need for stronger talent development, evaluation, and training programs.

The federation emphasized that these concerns were raised not as criticism, but as constructive recommendations aimed at improving transparency, accountability, media cooperation, and the overall development of cricket in Afghanistan.

ASJF stated that it will formally share the concerns and recommendations with the Afghanistan Cricket Board and the national sports authorities and expressed hope that practical steps will be taken to address the issues.

The Afghanistan Sports Journalists Federation serves as an independent national body representing sports journalists across the country. The organization advocates for professional sports journalism and seeks to strengthen cooperation between media institutions and sports governing bodies in Afghanistan.
