Afghan martial artist Fayaz Ahmad Ebrahimi won a bronze medal in the 75kg category at the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain, defeating rivals from Kyrgyzstan and India.

Ebrahimi will next compete for a possible silver medal as the tournament enters its final stages.

Another Afghan athlete, Ahmad Qayoumi, also beat his Indian opponent on Thursday and will fight for bronze in his division.

The Games feature athletes from 45 countries competing in 27 sports, with Afghanistan represented by about 50 athletes across eight disciplines.

Hosted by Bahrain, the event runs from October 22 to 31, highlighting Asia’s top young sporting talent.

Afghanistan continues to build its reputation in martial arts, with fighters like Ebrahimi and Qayoumi bringing international recognition to the nation’s youth programs despite limited resources and training opportunities.
