The University of Faryab veterans edged Buyuk Faryab 3–2 in the final to lift the provincial veterans’ championship trophy.

The Faryab Province Veterans Football Tournament concluded on Friday with the University of Faryab veterans’ team crowned champions after a closely contested final involving six veteran teams from across the province.

In the decisive match, the University of Faryab defeated Buyuk Faryab veterans 3–2 to secure the title, while Buyuk Faryab finished as runners-up in the competition.

The closing ceremony began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an and a moment of tribute to fallen figures of Afghan football, including the late Ustad Maiwand, former Technical Director of the Afghanistan Football Federation, and Hajji Farhad Adel, one of the country’s respected football personalities.

Individual awards were announced following the final. Ustad Khaibar Najafi of the University of Faryab was named Best Player of the Tournament, while Briali Barna of Buyuk Faryab finished as top scorer. Ali Shir Shirzad, also from the University of Faryab, received the Best Goalkeeper award.

Trophies and individual prizes were presented to the winning teams and standout players by local officials and senior football figures of Faryab Province.

In parallel with the tournament’s conclusion, a memorial ceremony was also held to honor the memory of sports martyrs, attended by provincial sports officials, football federation representatives, veteran players, and guests. The gathering underscored the continued respect for football’s legacy figures and the role of veteran athletes in preserving the sport’s history in the province.
