The Afghanistan national Buzkashi team is set to participate in an international Buzkashi tournament in Kazakhstan, according to the country’s Buzkashi Federation in coordination with the General Directorate of Olympics, Physical Education and Sports.
The tournament will be held in the city of Turkistan from March 15 to March 21 and marks the return of the international competition after a nine-year suspension.
A total of nine countries will take part in the event, including Afghanistan, China, Kazakhstan, Hungary, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Turkey. Athletes from these countries will compete for top positions in one of Central Asia’s most historic equestrian sports.
Buzkashi, widely regarded as Afghanistan’s traditional national sport, holds deep cultural significance across the region. International competitions have become an important platform for preserving the heritage of the game while strengthening sporting cooperation among participating nations.
The upcoming tournament in Turkistan is expected to bring renewed attention to the sport after nearly a decade without a major international event in the discipline.
