The event brought together 45 pairs of athletes in Qara Boyin Jangali village, the Afghanistan General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports said on Wednesday.

The directorate reported winners in 40 contests and draws in the remaining five. It did not identify the competitors or publish weight classes and bout-by-bout results.

Residents provided cash prizes for the winners, according to the official account. The value of the awards was not disclosed.

The competition was organised locally in coordination with Jowzjan’s physical education and sports administration. Traditional wrestling events are commonly staged as community competitions in the province rather than through a league table.
