Afghan ju-jitsu athlete Mustafa Wakili won a bronze medal in the 69kg full-contact category at the Ju-Jitsu World Championships being held in Kazakhstan.
Wakili advanced through his opening bout after his opponent failed to appear for the contest. He was then defeated by a Kazakh competitor in his second match, securing the bronze medal in the competition.
Afghanistan is represented at the tournament by a delegation comprising two athletes and one coach.
The championship, hosted by Kazakhstan, began on July 11 and concludes on July 19, bringing together competitors from 49 countries.
Wakili’s podium finish adds another international medal to Afghanistan’s growing achievements in combat sports.
The Ju-Jitsu World Championships bring together elite athletes from around the world to compete across multiple weight classes and disciplines. Afghanistan has continued to expand its presence in international combat sports, with its athletes regularly competing in regional and global championships despite limited resources and opportunities.
