A two-day wrestling selection championship featuring 120 athletes from Panjshir’s seven districts and provincial center has begun in the province. Athletes aged 14 to 20 are competing, with the event aimed at identifying top talent and developing wrestling in Panjshir.

Panjshir’s wrestling selection championship has begun with 120 athletes from seven districts and the provincial center competing in the two-day event.
The competition was organized by the provincial wrestling federation representative in cooperation with the Panjshir Physical Education and Sports Directorate, with coordination from provincial authorities and support from the provincial police command.
The opening ceremony was attended by Mawlawi Ahmadullah Wasiq, head of Afghanistan’s General Directorate of the National Olympic Committee, Physical Education and Sports; Qari Hayatullah Rahmani, sports adviser and president of the National Wrestling Federation; Dad Mohammad Payenda Akhtari, head of Olympic Affairs; Mawlawi Obaidulhaq Zahir, head of the Panjshir Physical Education and Sports Directorate; local officials and hundreds of spectators.
Wasiq said the sports administration remains committed to supporting and developing different sports and described Afghan athletes’ achievements in national and international competitions as significant.
Rahmani described wrestling as a traditional sport and part of Afghanistan’s cultural heritage, emphasizing continued support for its development.
Organizers said the championship aims to develop wrestling, identify talented athletes and provide opportunities for healthy competition.
The two-day championship features athletes aged 14 to 20 and serves as a selection competition for wrestlers from across Panjshir.
