A three-day boxing tournament involving 225 athletes from 28 clubs is underway in Kabul, the Afghanistan General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports said.
The directorate said the competition, titled the Abdul Ghafour Raghbat Cup, began on Wednesday, September 2, and is being staged under the supervision of the national boxing federation.
Bakhtar News Agency described the event as the 34th edition of the tournament. The official announcement did not provide the boxers’ weight divisions, bout schedule or the criteria that will be used to determine the final standings.
The competition is named after Abdul Ghafour Raghbat, a veteran figure in Afghan boxing. Organizers have presented the annual cup as both a competitive event and a commemoration of his contribution to the sport.
The previous edition reported by the sports directorate in July 2025 involved 200 athletes from 24 Kabul clubs. This year’s announced field is therefore larger by 25 competitors and four clubs.
