Alexander Isak struck an early double to give Liverpool a 2–0 away victory over Ipswich Town on Friday night, securing the club’s first Premier League win of the 2026–27 season.
Cody Gakpo created both goals. For the opener, he moved infield and found Isak, whose powerful near-post finish beat goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen.
The pair combined again minutes later. Gakpo supplied the pass with the outside of his boot before Isak evaded his marker and rolled a left-footed shot into the net.
Isak appeared to complete a first-half hat-trick after receiving a pass from Florian Wirtz, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Liverpool nevertheless controlled long spells and limited Ipswich’s opportunities.
The hosts threatened after the interval, with Alisson Becker saving from Julio Enciso before a deflected Jack Clarke effort went narrowly wide. Liverpool held on for a clean sheet despite creating fewer clear chances in the second half.
The win lifted Iraola’s side to five points from three league games following consecutive 2–2 draws. Isak has now scored three times in three appearances this season, according to Liverpool’s post-match update.
New signing Bradley Barcola made his Liverpool debut as a second-half substitute. The club’s official match report confirmed the score, scorers and assists, while Reuters independently reported the result.
