KABUL — Afghanistan has sent a three-member boxing delegation to Japan ahead of the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya.
The delegation consists of one boxer, one coach and one team official, according to information released by Afghanistan’s General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports.
The boxing delegation becomes another part of Afghanistan’s contingent travelling to Japan ahead of the continental multi-sport event.
Afghanistan is expected to field 34 athletes across nine sports at the Games, according to Afghan sports authorities.
The Asian Games are scheduled to run from September 19 to October 4, bringing together athletes from 45 Asian countries and regions.
Boxing competition is scheduled to begin on September 21, according to the official Aichi-Nagoya 2026 competition programme.
The departure follows Afghanistan’s wushu delegation, which has also travelled to Japan. Four Afghan wushu athletes are part of the country’s wider Asian Games contingent.
For Afghanistan’s lone boxer, the competition will provide an opportunity to represent the country on one of Asia’s largest multi-sport stages.
