NISHIO, Japan — Afghanistan’s Emal Hamdam was eliminated from the Asian Games men’s 60kg boxing competition after losing a closely contested quarter-final to Tajikistan’s Akmal Ubaidov by a 3–2 split decision.

The bout took place at Nishio Gymnasium on Sunday evening. Ubaidov advanced to the semi-finals, while Hamdam’s defeat ended Afghanistan’s medal challenge in the division.

The official scorecards reflected how narrow the contest was. Two judges scored the bout 29–27 for Hamdam, while two returned 29–27 cards for Ubaidov. The fifth card was level at 28–28, with the deciding preference awarded to the Tajik boxer.

Ubaidov also received a warning in the second round, but he did enough across the three rounds to secure the majority of the judges’ final selections.

Hamdam had reached the last eight with a commanding opening performance, defeating Qatar’s Mohamed Alfagay by unanimous decision. His quarter-final exit leaves that victory as the high point of his campaign in Japan.

The result follows the earlier elimination of Afghan boxer Mohammad Ibrahim Frotan in the men’s 70kg competition, where South Korea’s Kim Joonsu won their preliminary bout by split decision.
