Afghanistan occupy 22nd place in FIFA’s September men’s futsal world rankings, sitting between Georgia and Iraq as Brazil continue to lead the global standings.

The latest rankings leave the top ten unchanged from May, but there has been movement further down the table following a summer of international matches.

For Afghanistan, the new standings underline how closely several Asian teams are grouped. Vietnam have climbed two places to 20th, while Iraq and Uzbekistan sit immediately behind Afghanistan in 23rd and 24th.

Vietnam collected 19.5 ranking points during the latest assessment period, more than any other men’s team. Their recent international results included a victory over Afghanistan.

Thailand and Japan occupy 11th and 12th places respectively, while Iran remain fifth in the world.

At the top of the men’s rankings, Brazil retain first place, followed by Portugal and Spain. Argentina are fourth, with Iran completing the top five.

Zambia recorded the largest rise by position, climbing four places to 82nd. Montenegro suffered the steepest fall, dropping 13 places to 74th.

Brazil also lead the women’s world rankings, ahead of Spain and Portugal. Croatia made the largest advance, rising three places to 32nd and collecting 15.6 ranking points.

Serbia recorded the biggest drop in the women’s table, falling three places to 59th. The women’s rankings now include 95 national teams, with no new entrants in September.

Neither the men’s nor the women’s top ten has changed since the previous rankings were published in May.

Afghanistan’s position keeps the national side among the world’s top 25, with several Asian rivals occupying nearby places in the standings.

FIFA will publish the next edition of both futsal world rankings on December 11, 2026.
