Afghanistan judoka Hikmatullah Rahmani has been eliminated from the Asian Games after recording one victory and one defeat in the men’s 66kg competition in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

Rahmani began his campaign against Cambodia’s Somnang Chantha in the round of 32 and won the contest to advance to the last 16.

The victory put the 20-year-old Afghan into a second contest against Mongolia’s Yolk Kazirbyek, where his run came to an end.

Kazirbyek defeated Rahmani in the round of 16, eliminating the Afghan from the competition.

Rahmani’s opening victory nevertheless gave Afghanistan a winning start in the men’s 66kg judo draw before he came up against the Mongolian in the next round.

Afghanistan has sent judokas to compete at the Games as part of its wider delegation in Japan.

The 20th Asian Games opened in Aichi-Nagoya on September 19, bringing together athletes from 45 Asian countries across 41 sports. Afghanistan is represented in nine sports.
