Kickboxers from five Afghan provinces came together in Nimroz for the ninth edition of the provincial kickboxing competition, with organisers placing talent identification at the centre of the event.
Athletes representing Kabul, Herat, Zabul, Farah and host province Nimroz competed across different divisions.
The participation of five provinces gave the tournament a wider reach than a purely local competition, allowing athletes from different parts of the country to test themselves against opponents outside their home provinces.
Mullah Obaidullah Nazafat, head of physical education and sports in Nimroz, said the competition was intended to contribute to the development of kickboxing and help identify sporting talent.
Tamim Ahmadi, head of the Nimroz Kickboxing Federation and host of the tournament, also confirmed the participation of athletes from several provinces.
For provincial combat sports, competitions of this kind provide an important competitive stage between local training and wider national events. The Nimroz tournament brought that opportunity to athletes from five provinces, while giving organisers a setting in which to identify stronger performers.
