Afghanistan's national futsal team has travelled to Brazil to compete in a six-nation international tournament, with Japan and Peru awaiting them in the group stage.

The competition began on Monday, 12 October 2026, in São José dos Pinhais, a city in the Brazilian state of Paraná, and is scheduled to continue until 18 October.

Six national teams are participating: Afghanistan, Brazil, Japan, Indonesia, Peru and Cape Verde.

The teams have been divided into two groups, with Afghanistan placed in Group A alongside Japan and Peru.

The draw gives Afghanistan two different international opponents in the opening stage, providing an opportunity to assess the team's performance against established futsal opposition outside Asia.

Japan are a familiar regional opponent for Afghanistan, while Peru offer a meeting with a South American side in a tournament hosted in Brazil.

The competition also brings together teams from Asia, South America and Africa, offering Afghanistan a wider range of opponents than it would encounter in regional tournaments alone.

The information released did not specify Afghanistan's individual match dates, kick-off times, squad list or the tournament's knockout-stage arrangements.
