The first T20 international between Afghanistan and India will be played as scheduled in New Delhi on September 13, ending uncertainty caused by security and traffic concerns in the Indian capital.
The Delhi and District Cricket Association confirmed that the match remains scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Questions about the fixture emerged because New Delhi is also hosting the BRICS Summit from September 11 to 13, creating additional security requirements and expected traffic disruption.
Delhi police reportedly asked organisers to consider postponing the match. Cricket officials, however, said the fixture would proceed after discussions concerning security and traffic arrangements.
Afghanistan is the official host of the three-match bilateral series, although all the fixtures will be played in New Delhi. The second and third matches are scheduled for September 15 and 17.
Ibrahim Zadran will captain Afghanistan, while Shreyas Iyer will lead India. The confirmation allows both teams to continue preparing without changes to their travel or training plans.
