The National Powerlifting Federation of Afghanistan is set to dispatch a seven-member team to Belarus to participate in the World Powerlifting Championship, scheduled from 6 to 10 May.
The delegation consists of six athletes and one coach, who will compete in youth, masters, and open categories against participants from various countries. The team’s participation reflects ongoing efforts to maintain international engagement despite constraints facing the domestic sports sector.
Before departure, a farewell ceremony was held with the presence of senior officials from the General Directorate of Olympic, Physical Education, and Sports, including Director General Ahmadullah Wasiq and Technical Deputy Hafiz Ahmad Jan Zadran. Officials extended their support and expressed confidence in the team’s performance at the international event.
The federation described the initiative as part of broader attempts to provide athletes with exposure at the international level and to strengthen Afghanistan’s representation in global competitions.
International participation remains a critical component of Afghanistan’s sports development strategy, offering athletes competitive experience and visibility while domestic training and competition structures continue to evolve under institutional limitations.
