A National Kurash Championship was held in Baghlan Central district of Baghlan province, bringing together 60 athletes from Baghlan, Kunduz, Samangan and Zabul for a one-day competition.
The tournament was organized by the Baghlan representative office of the Afghanistan Kurash Federation in cooperation with the province’s Directorate of Physical Education and Sports.
The competition was contested in a single-bout (knockout) format, with athletes competing across multiple weight categories.
At the conclusion of the championship, 25 wrestlers secured victories over their opponents to claim championship titles, while five bouts finished in draws.
Organizers said the event was part of ongoing efforts to promote Kurash and provide athletes with competitive opportunities at the provincial and national levels.
Kurash is a traditional form of belt wrestling that originated in Central Asia and has grown into an internationally recognized combat sport. Afghanistan has increasingly organized provincial and national Kurash competitions to expand participation, identify promising athletes and strengthen the sport’s development across the country.
