Bangladesh name Liton-led squad for Afghanistan-hosted tri-series

Bangladesh have named Liton Das captain of a 16-player ODI squad for the Afghanistan-hosted tri-series in the United Arab Emirates. The squad decision fixes Afghanistan’s next white-ball opponent before the hosts face Zimbabwe on 19 October and Bangladesh on 21 October.
Bangladesh’s squad announcement gives Afghanistan a clearer picture of the opposition they will meet in the ODI tri-series that follows the ongoing one-off Test in Abu Dhabi.
The Times of India reported on Saturday, citing the Bangladesh Cricket Board announcement, that Liton has returned to the ODI side as captain after missing Bangladesh’s July series against Zimbabwe with a calf injury. Tawhid Hridoy was named vice-captain, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz remains in the squad as an all-rounder.
Aliss Al Islam received his first ODI call-up. The off-spinner’s selection adds another spin option before Bangladesh play Zimbabwe on 17 October and Afghanistan four days later.
ACB’s published schedule says Afghanistan will host Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in a three-match ODI league phase from 17 to 21 October, followed by a final on 23 October. Afghanistan’s first match is against Zimbabwe on 19 October before the Bangladesh fixture on 21 October.
The same ACB schedule places the tournament inside a longer UAE home programme that includes the Bangladesh Test, the ODI tri-series, three T20Is against Zimbabwe and two Tests against Zimbabwe. That makes the Bangladesh squad announcement more than a routine selection notice for Afghanistan: it identifies the players likely to shape the hosts’ immediate ODI preparation after the Test match.
The Bangladesh squad listed by the Times of India is: Liton Das (captain), Tawhid Hridoy (vice-captain), Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Saif Hassan, Soumya Sarkar, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Musaddek Hossain Saikat, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Quazi Nurul Hasan Sohan, Rishad Hossain, Tanvir Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Shoriful Islam and Aliss Al Islam.
