Former England pace bowler Stuart Broad has revealed his all-time Test XI made up exclusively of opponents he faced during his international career.
Broad, who retired with 604 Test wickets, selected a team featuring some of the most accomplished players of the modern era. His lineup includes Graeme Smith and Kumar Sangakkara as openers, with Sangakkara also taking wicketkeeping duties.
Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting was named at number three, followed by India’s Virat Kohli at number four. Kohli was the only Indian player included in the side.
The middle order features Steven Smith, Jacques Kallis and AB de Villiers, while the bowling attack consists of Mitchell Johnson, Dale Steyn, Mitchell Starc and spin legend Muttiah Muralitharan.
The selection has generated considerable discussion among cricket fans due to the omission of Indian batting icon Sachin Tendulkar and star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah.
Tendulkar, widely regarded as one of the greatest batters in cricket history, was left out despite Broad competing against him during his career. Bumrah’s exclusion also drew attention, particularly given his memorable record-setting over against Broad in 2022.
Broad said his choices reflected the opponents who made the greatest impression on him throughout nearly two decades of international cricket.
Stuart Broad is one of England’s most successful Test bowlers, finishing his career with 604 wickets. His all-time XI features players from South Africa, Australia, Sri Lanka, India and other leading cricket nations, highlighting the quality of opposition he faced during his career.
