Real Madrid have officially announced the signing of Ibrahima Konaté, the 27-year-old France international defender, on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Liverpool.

Konaté joins the Spanish giants after failing to reach an agreement over a contract extension with Liverpool, bringing an end to his five-year spell at Anfield.

During his time in England, the French defender established himself as one of Liverpool’s key defensive figures, earning praise for his aerial strength, pace and defensive reliability.

At Real Madrid, Konaté will join fellow French internationals including Kylian Mbappé, Eduardo Camavinga and Aurélien Tchouaméni as the club continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the new season.

The defender becomes Real Madrid’s third major signing of the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Bernardo Silva and Marc Cucurella.

While many Liverpool supporters expressed disappointment over losing the defender without receiving a transfer fee, Real Madrid fans have welcomed the addition of an experienced and proven international center-back.

Konaté began his professional career in France before moving to Liverpool, where he developed into one of Europe’s most respected defenders. His arrival is expected to bolster Real Madrid’s defensive options in both domestic and European competitions.
