Talent Identification Efforts Continue Amid Expanding Grassroots Participation

A selection tournament for youth boxing has commenced in Kabul, bringing together 265 athletes from clubs across the capital and its districts in a structured eight-day competition aimed at identifying emerging talent.
The event is being organized by the National Boxing Federation in cooperation with the General Directorate of Olympic, Physical Education, and Sports. Athletes are competing in the youth age category across multiple weight divisions, with performances being evaluated for inclusion in the city’s youth representative squad.
At the conclusion of the competition, 26 boxers will be selected to form the official youth team of Kabul. Organizers state that the primary objective is to identify promising athletes and strengthen the capital’s representative squad through a merit-based selection process.
The scale of participation reflects sustained interest in boxing at the grassroots level, even as broader structural challenges continue to shape the development of organized sport across the country. Selection-based competitions such as this remain a key mechanism for talent identification in the absence of fully integrated national training systems.
