Former Afghanistan Cricket Board chairman Azizullah Fazli has said that Khalid Aziz has been appointed as the new chairman of the country’s cricket governing body, although no official announcement has yet been issued.
Fazli appeared to disclose the development in a Facebook post on Tuesday, congratulating Aziz on what he described as a new responsibility. Afghan sports journalist Ibrahim Momand also reported the claimed appointment.
However, the Afghanistan Cricket Board had not confirmed the leadership change at the time of publication. The board’s official website continued to list former national-team all-rounder Mirwais Ashraf as chairman.
Ashraf is currently in India, where Afghanistan are playing a bilateral T20I series against the host nation.
Little verified public information is currently available about Khalid Aziz, including whether he has previously held a cricket-administration or sports-management position. It is also unclear when he may formally assume office if the reported appointment is confirmed.
ASJF NEWS has not independently verified the claim and will update this report when an official announcement or further confirmed information becomes available.
