Afghan wrestler Nader Sofizada has returned home after winning a bronze medal at the sixth World Nomad Games in Kyrgyzstan.
Afghanistan was represented by a four-member Rustami wrestling delegation comprising two athletes, one coach and one official. The delegation participated with the support of the General Directorate of Olympic Affairs, Physical Education and Sports.
Sofizada competed in the freestyle Kuresh event and defeated opponents representing Italy, Georgia and Armenia.
He then lost to a Kyrgyz opponent in the next stage of the competition but completed his campaign with the bronze medal.
Dad Mohammad Payenda Akhtari, the national sports authority’s director of Olympic affairs, welcomed the delegation upon its return to Afghanistan.
During the reception, officials recognised the efforts and achievement of the Afghan athletes who represented the country at the Games.
The sixth World Nomad Games brought together athletes from more than 100 countries in Kyrgyzstan. Competitors participated in sports rooted in the cultures and traditions of nomadic communities.
