Afghanistan Test captain Rahmat Shah has climbed from 26th to 13th in the latest ICC men's Test batting rankings following his performances in the drawn one-off Test against Bangladesh.

The International Cricket Council confirmed the rise in its rankings update published on Wednesday, October 14.

Rahmat's improvement of 13 positions follows two important innings in Abu Dhabi, where he scored an unbeaten 105 in Afghanistan's first innings and 51 in the second.

The ICC rankings report also noted gains for several Bangladesh players following the same Test.

The achievement comes after Rahmat captained Afghanistan in the one-off Test, which ended in a draw following the team's prolonged fourth-innings resistance.

His first-innings century helped Afghanistan respond to Bangladesh's total, while his second-innings half-century contributed to the effort to save the match.

The latest rankings reflect the significance of those performances beyond the match itself.

Moving into 13th place puts Rahmat among the leading Test batters in the ICC standings, despite Afghanistan playing fewer Test matches than many established international sides.

Rahmat's rise was one of several ranking changes following the Abu Dhabi contest.

Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das advanced three places to joint 29th in the Test batting rankings, while fast bowler Hasan Mahmud moved up seven positions to 38th among Test bowlers.

For Afghanistan, Rahmat’s move to 13th is a significant achievement in the country’s Test cricket development.

The ranking rewards his individual contribution against Bangladesh and adds another milestone to his career as one of Afghanistan's most experienced international batters.
