Takhar emerged as the leading team at a kung-fu championship in Taloqan that brought together 100 athletes from Afghanistan’s northern and northeastern provinces.
The fourth edition of the competition concluded with Takhar taking first place in the overall standings. Balkh finished second, while Baghlan secured third place.
The size and regional reach of the tournament provided a broader competitive test than a single-province event, bringing athletes from across the north and northeast into the same championship.
The competition was organised under the title Peace and Solidarity Cup by the provincial kung-fu federation representation in coordination with Takhar’s sports authorities.
Organisers said the event was intended to develop competitive kung-fu and provide athletes from the participating provinces with opportunities to compete against opponents from outside their usual local circuits.
Cups, medals and championship awards were presented to leading competitors following the conclusion of the tournament.
For Takhar, however, the central sporting outcome was clear: its athletes finished ahead of regional rivals Balkh and Baghlan to take the championship’s overall top position.
