Afghanistan's national cricket team prepares for its opening ODI tri-series match against Zimbabwe in Abu Dhabi.

Afghanistan's national cricket team held an afternoon training session on Sunday, October 18, ahead of its opening match against Zimbabwe in the ODI tri-nation series in the United Arab Emirates.

The two teams are scheduled to meet on Monday, October 19, at Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi, where Afghanistan will begin its campaign in the three-team competition involving Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.

Rahmat Shah will captain Afghanistan in the series, with Rahmanullah Gurbaz serving as vice-captain and wicketkeeper, according to the Afghanistan Cricket Board's announced squad.

The team also includes established players Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Ibrahim Zadran, Hashmatullah Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai.

Afghanistan's preparations follow the conclusion of its one-off Test against Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi.

The ODI competition began on October 17 with Bangladesh facing Zimbabwe. Afghanistan will play Bangladesh on October 21 in its second group-stage fixture.

Each team faces the other two once before the top two advance to the final, scheduled for October 23.

Monday's encounter therefore marks an important opening opportunity for Afghanistan to secure points in a short tournament where every result can influence qualification for the final.
