KABUL, February 15, 2018 – The Afghanistan Sports Journalists Federation marked World Radio Day in collaboration with AIPS, AIPS ASIA and AFC by holding a one day sports media workshop for radio journalists with the theme ‘Radio broadcasting for Peace, Development Initiatives and Gender Equality in Afghanistan.’

25 Radio Journalists (five women and fifteen men) participated in the one day workshop, while Mujibullah Rahmani, International Relations Director of Afghanistan Olympic Committee, Sayer Zaland President of Afghanistan Sports Journalists Federation, Sports analyst Javid Khawar, Khoshhal Taib, VP ASJF and Manager of Workshops and training committee Zaher Noori presented on the theme of workshop.

ASJF President Zaland welcomed the journalists to the workshop and spoke about the aim of ASJF and this workshop. He added that the ASJF staged this workshop under AIPS and AIPS ASIA, with the collaboration of the AFC. Zaland expressed his hope that the AFC would continue to support the ASJF to hold future workshops for media in Afghanistan and bring more female journalists to the sports arena.

Zaland also thanked NOC, AFF and all other sports organizations who helped them during last few years and address journalists to focus on sports and peace in Afghanistan.

The ASJF organised the same workshop in four different Afghani regions. In Laghman province, fifteen journalists attended the workshop, in Helmand eighteen radio journalists participated while in Kandahar twelve journalists were part of the workshop.

The Afghani Sports Journalists Federation is preparing to organise eleven national workshops and one workshop for Asian reporters in Kabul in 2018.

Sayer Zaland is an Afghan sports journalist and media professional, Founder of the Afghanistan Sports Journalists Federation (ASJF). Since 2014, he has worked to strengthen independent media in Afghanistan, representing over 100 members nationwide. He continues to advocate for free press, inclusivity, and international cooperation for Afghan journalists.
