
Kabul, Afghanistan-14 August 2025: The Afghanistan Sports Journalists Federation (ASJF) will host its 5th Congress virtually on 16 August 2025 at 14:00 Afghanistan time (11:30 Central European Time), marking a major milestone in the Federation’s history.
The event will bring together over 117 sports journalists from across Afghanistan and abroad, including 31 provincial representatives, to decide on the future leadership of the Federation in a democratic and transparent process.
The Congress will be held under the close observation and coordination of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS), with AIPS President Mr. Gianni Merlo and AIPS Secretary General Mr. Jura Ozmec participating live.
Distinguished guests will also include representatives of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), and the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), and the Afghanistan Journalists Unions, reflecting the growing importance and recognition of the ASJF in the international sports community.
The ASJF 5th Congress will not only elect new leadership but will also review amendments to its statutes, strengthen its structure with the introduction of an International Board for exiled journalists, and reaffirm its commitment to professional standards, inclusivity, and the AIPS Constitution.
Speaking ahead of the Congress, ASJF Founder and Vice President Sayer Zaland said:“This Congress is a turning point for Afghan sports journalism. It shows our unity, our independence, and our commitment to global standards. With the support of AIPS and our international partners, ASJF will continue to serve as the true voice of Afghan sports journalists.”
The outcomes of the Congress will be officially announced following the conclusion of the proceedings on 16 August.
