Golf legend Phil Mickelson has announced he will not participate in the 2026 Masters Tournament, citing ongoing family health matters. The 55-year-old three-time champion released a statement on social media confirming his withdrawal and noting he will be out for an extended period.

Augusta National Chairman Fred Ridley expressed support for Mickelson, stating: “We know how much Phil loves the Masters tournament, and he will be missed by everyone in Augusta next week. He has our complete support as he takes time to be with his family.”

Mickelson’s announcement comes shortly after Tiger Woods declared he would also sit out the Masters while seeking treatment following a DUI arrest and car accident in Florida. The absence of both golfers marks a rare instance where two of the game’s most iconic figures will not compete at Augusta, where they dominated headlines for decades.

Mickelson recently competed at LIV Golf South Africa, leading his HyFlyers GC squad and finishing tied for 48th, but noted that his priority now is family.

Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods defined an era of professional golf, competing at the highest level from the late 1990s through the 2010s. Mickelson’s career includes six major victories, three of which came at Augusta, while Woods captured five Masters titles and 15 majors in total. Their rivalry and achievements have shaped modern golf and left a lasting impact on the sport.
