Bruno Fernandes scored a hat-trick and supplied an assist as Manchester United defeated Ipswich Town 5-2 in the Premier League. Chelsea also preserved their perfect league start with a 4-3 home victory over Brighton.

Bruno Fernandes produced a three-goal display to lead Manchester United to a 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town on Sunday, giving Michael Carrick’s side its first Premier League win of the season.
Ipswich went ahead through Leif Davis in the 29th minute, but Fernandes equalised before a Jacob Greaves own goal put United in front. The captain then completed his hat-trick, including one goal from the penalty spot, before creating Bryan Mbeumo’s late strike.
Chuba Akpom scored Ipswich’s second goal, but the visitors could not halt United’s response after the hosts had opened their campaign with defeat at Hull City.
The performance was Fernandes’s second Premier League hat-trick, five years after his first against Leeds United. The Premier League recorded three goals and one assist for the midfielder in the match.
Marcus Rashford also made his first United start in more than 18 months after loan spells with Aston Villa and Barcelona. His return added another notable element to Carrick’s first home league match of the campaign.
At Stamford Bridge, Chelsea survived a Brighton comeback to win 4-3 and make it two league victories from two under Xabi Alonso.
Romeo Lavia, Pedro Neto and Joao Pedro put Chelsea three goals ahead inside 32 minutes. Brighton replied through Malick Yalcouye and a Joao Pedro own goal before Cole Palmer restored Chelsea’s two-goal advantage.
Pascal Gross scored Brighton’s third late in the match, but Chelsea held on for six points from their opening two fixtures. Alonso’s team next faces defending champion Arsenal.
