Around 250 athletes from 21 provinces competed in a national freerunning and parkour competition in Khost, bringing competitors from across Afghanistan together in four age categories.

The competition was held at Khost Municipality Park by the sport’s national federation in cooperation with the provincial Physical Education and Sports Department.

Athletes competed in senior, youth, junior and children’s categories.

Ehsan of Herat took first place in the senior competition, ahead of Nooristan of Khost in second and Basit of Maidan Wardak in third.

In the youth category, Muzamil of Kabul finished first, Ibrahim of Khost was second and Samir of Kabul placed third.

Parwiz of Kabul won the junior category. Zabihullah of Maidan Wardak finished second and Hafiz of Kabul took third place.

The children’s competition was won by Nemat of Paktia, with Hayan of Kabul finishing second and Rahmat of Maidan Wardak third.

The size of the field gave athletes from 21 provinces an opportunity to compete against one another in the same event and provided the federation with a wider look at emerging competitors across different age groups.

Organisers said the competition was intended to develop freerunning and parkour and identify young athletes from around the country.
