Azad Akhlaqi defeated Omid Jawidan 4-3 in the opening match of a 16-team futsal tournament that began in Lashkar Gah, the capital of Helmand province.
The closely contested match gave Azad Akhlaqi the first victory of the competition, which is being played in a two-leg knockout format.
Organizers said the 16-day tournament would help the participating teams prepare for upcoming league competitions.
Provincial sports representatives, futsal officials, team captains, journalists and supporters attended the opening ceremony.
The Helmand Futsal Committee organized the tournament under the provincial football federation and the Helmand Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, with financial support from Behta Juice.
