Traditional Sports Competitions Bring Students and Athletes Together in Bamyan
Athletes and school teams competed in stone throwing, tug-of-war and arm wrestling at a traditional sports event in Bamyan. Organisers said the programme aimed to promote local sporting traditions among young people and school students.

Traditional sports competitions in stone throwing, tug-of-war and arm wrestling concluded at a school in central Bamyan province, bringing together local athletes and students in three disciplines.
The event was organised by the Bamyan Provincial Department of Physical Education and Sports and a delegation from the country's sports administration, in coordination with the provincial Education Department and the management of Bamyan Central High School.
In the stone-throwing competition, 20 athletes took part. Abbas finished first, Mahfoozullah secured second place and Mahmood came third.
The tug-of-war competition featured six teams. Class 11-6 won the championship, while Class 11-3 finished as runners-up.
In arm wrestling, Aqeel claimed first place, followed by Lutfullah in second and Abdul Hussain in third.
Organisers said the event was intended to recognise the recent achievements of Afghan athletes in international competitions while encouraging greater participation in traditional sports, particularly among young people and school students in Bamyan.
By holding the competitions at a school, the organisers brought traditional disciplines into an educational setting, offering students an opportunity to participate in sports that remain part of Afghanistan's local sporting culture.
The report did not specify the total number of participants across all three disciplines or provide detailed results beyond the leading finishers.
