Mujtaba Faqirzada finished first in a 10-kilometre road race involving 400 athletes in Kabul on Friday.
The Afghanistan Athletics Federation organised the competition in cooperation with the Directorate of Inclusive Sports. The event was financially supported by Atoma Telecommunications as part of activities marking the company’s 20th anniversary.
Participants began the race in Darulaman and followed a course ending at Ghazi Stadium.
Faqirzada completed the course ahead of Mohammad Bashir, who secured second place. Mohammad Sharif Yaqoubi finished third.
The Athletics Federation selected the competitors finishing between first and 10th place to participate in upcoming national selection competitions.
The event provided hundreds of athletes with competitive experience while offering the leading runners an opportunity to advance to the national selection stage.
The organisers did not publish the athletes’ finishing times or announce the date of the national selection competition.
