KHOST, Afghanistan — Province Stars beat Chini Madykhel by 90 runs in Madykhel on Wednesday to complete a two-month tape-ball tournament involving 70 teams, according to Afghanistan’s General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports.
Province Stars set Chini Madykhel a target of 191 in the final and then defended it to secure the title. The Khost provincial sports directorate organised the competition.
The tournament was dedicated to Shapoor Zadran, the former Afghanistan left-arm fast bowler who died on July 7 at the age of 38 after a prolonged illness. Zadran retired in 2025 after representing Afghanistan for more than a decade.
The International Cricket Council credited Zadran with 43 wickets in one-day internationals and 37 in Twenty20 internationals. He was Afghanistan’s leading wicket-taker at the 2015 World Cup with ten wickets and struck the winning runs against Scotland in the country’s first victory at the tournament.
