Afghanistan took three wickets for four runs during Bangladesh’s innings on the opening day of the one-off Test in Abu Dhabi on 9 October. Mohammad Saleem finished with three wickets as Bangladesh reached stumps at 317–8.

Afghanistan recovered from a 124-run opening partnership to take eight Bangladesh wickets on Friday, with Mohammad Saleem’s late double strike leaving two wickets to collect when play resumes at Zayed Cricket Stadium.

Bangladesh had advanced to 221–2 before Yamin Ahmadzai dismissed Mominul Haque for 39 and bowled Mushfiqur Rahim for a duck. Qais Ahmad then removed captain Najmul Hossain Shanto for 29, reducing the visitors to 225–5, according to the myKhel scorecard.

That sequence followed a fast start by Tanzid Hasan, who struck 83 from 71 balls, including eight fours and four sixes. He and Shadman Islam added 124 for the first wicket after Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat.

Ismat Alam ended the opening stand by having Tanzid caught by wicketkeeper Ikram Alikhil. Saleem removed Shadman for 67 with the score on 184.

Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz subsequently added 62 for the sixth wicket, taking Bangladesh to 287. Ismat bowled Miraz for 24 before Saleem dismissed Litton for 53 and Hasan Mahmud for two within five balls.

Nayeem Hasan, unbeaten on 11, and Taijul Islam, on four, saw out the remaining overs. Bangladesh had faced 84 overs by stumps and Afghanistan had yet to bat.

Saleem returned 3–70 from 19 overs. Ismat’s 2–20 from 12.4 overs included five maidens, while Yamin took 2–62 and Qais 1–60. Zia-ur-Rehman and Hashmatullah Shahidi bowled without taking a wicket.

Rahmat Shah leads an Afghan XI that also includes Abdul Malik, Sediqullah Atal and Shahidullah Kamal. The one-off match is scheduled to run until 13 October.
