The sixth season of the Afghanistan Champions League opens in Kabul on Thursday, beginning a three-month national football competition involving 10 clubs.
Defending champion Abu Muslim Farah will face Sarsabz Yashlar Faryab in the opening match at the Afghanistan Football Federation stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. local time.
The federation said the competition will be played across two rounds, with every club facing the others home and away. A total of 90 matches—45 in each half of the season—are scheduled before the campaign concludes on November 21.
Friday’s programme features two matches. Khorasan will play Omer Zawak Herat, while Toofan Herat will meet Esteghlal Kabul.
Organisers plan to stage five matches each week at the federation stadium, with fixtures beginning at either 4 p.m. or 7 p.m. Ariana Television is due to broadcast the matches live.
The opening fixture gives Abu Muslim an immediate test of its title defence. Sarsabz Yashlar has strengthened its squad ahead of the season and will attempt to begin the campaign by defeating the reigning champion.
