KUNDUZ: The Qari Mola volleyball team claimed victory in the Kunduz District Volleyball Championship after defeating Khan Zakhil in the final match held Monday night in Qala-e-Zal district.

The tournament, organized by the district branch of the Volleyball Federation in collaboration with the Kunduz Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, brought together six teams from across the district, aiming to promote unity and strengthen volleyball at the community level.

The final match was an intense showdown, with Qari Mola securing the title by defeating Khan Zakhil with a decisive score of 31–23.

Tournament organizer Ahmad Shah Mohammadi praised the athletes’ commitment, saying, “Events like this not only nurture athletic talent but also build friendships and peace through sports.”

Sports analyst Latif Rahimi noted that district level tournaments are vital for identifying young talent for provincial and national competitions, emphasizing that “volleyball in rural Afghanistan has grown significantly in recent years despite limited resources.”

At the closing ceremony, officials awarded trophies and prizes to the champion team, runners-up, and outstanding players.

Volleyball has been steadily gaining popularity in Afghanistan, especially in rural areas, where it is seen as an affordable and community-driven sport.
Despite infrastructure challenges, local tournaments play a key role in promoting physical activity and creating opportunities for young athletes to advance to higher levels of competition.
