The Algerian Football Federation has formally submitted a complaint to FIFA, alleging refereeing errors in its match against Argentina.

The most debated incident of the match involved Argentina captain Lionel Messi, who appeared to make contact with the leg of an Algerian player during a challenge. The incident quickly sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many users criticizing the referee for failing to take disciplinary action.

Several refereeing analysts argued that Messi should have been shown a red card for the challenge, while others questioned why no foul was awarded.

The Algerian Football Federation maintains that the outcome of the match could have been different had Messi been sent off.

However, according to FIFA’s Referees Committee, the incident did not meet the criteria for either violent conduct or serious foul play. FIFA stated that the contact between Messi’s boot and the leg of Algerian player Mendy was not sufficient grounds for a red card.

The governing body added that Messi did not use excessive force or seriously endanger his opponent’s safety.

Controversial refereeing decisions often generate significant debate during major international tournaments. FIFA’s disciplinary and refereeing bodies routinely review disputed incidents to determine whether match officials applied the Laws of the Game correctly.
