The Omid Watan National T20 Tournament officially began in Kunduz on Sunday, marking the start of a major domestic cricket competition that will continue until 14 May.

The opening ceremony included formal proceedings alongside the launch of matches, reflecting ongoing efforts to sustain organized cricket events within Afghanistan’s domestic system. Video highlights from the event captured key moments from both the ceremony and the matches.

The tournament is being held with financial backing from corporate sponsors, with ENDO as the main sponsor and Super Cola as a supporting partner. The involvement of private companies underscores an increasing reliance on commercial partnerships to support domestic cricket development.

Organizers say the tournament aims to strengthen national cricket structures by providing competitive opportunities for players and enhancing the sport’s visibility at the provincial level.

Domestic T20 competitions play a key role in Afghanistan’s cricket development, offering platforms for talent identification and maintaining competitive standards despite limited international fixtures.
