Afghanistan head coach Jonathan Trott has conceded that his national cricket team is “not Asia’s second-best side right now.”

Speaking after recent matches, Trott highlighted the need for greater consistency and sharper execution in crucial moments. “We have the talent to compete with Asia’s top teams, but improving our mindset and discipline is essential to climb the rankings,” he said.

Trott’s remarks come amid growing expectations for Afghanistan to strengthen its position in Asian cricket, where the team has shown flashes of brilliance but struggled to maintain sustained performances.

Afghanistan cricket has risen rapidly over the past decade, producing world-class players and upsetting established teams in major tournaments. However, consistency remains a challenge, particularly against higher-ranked Asian sides like India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Trott’s focus on mental resilience and discipline reflects an ongoing strategy to solidify Afghanistan’s place among the continent’s cricketing elite.
